Ingredients to make Honey Garlic Chicken Quarters
Let’s start by gathering the ingredients we need to make our easy honey garlic chicken quarters recipe. In Chef Speak, this is called the Mise en Place, which translates into Everything in its Place.
Not only does setting your ingredients up ahead of time speed the cooking process, but it also helps ensure you have everything you need to make the dish.
What else can I add to the recipe?
You can easily change this delicious sauce to suit your taste preference. Add soy sauce or oyster sauce for a more pronounced umami flavor.
To kick up the heat, add red pepper flakes, hot sauce, sriracha, or chili sauce. For a sweeter sauce, add a little brown sugar to the mixture.
Apple cider vinegar can be substituted for rice vinegar to make this easy recipe.
To change the overall flavor of the chicken, add your favorite spices or fresh herbs to the seasoning mixture. You can also use premade seasoning blends, like jerk seasoning, cajun seasoning, Italian seasoning, or any of your favorites.
Can I use other chicken parts to make the recipe?
Absolutely. You can use chicken breast quarters or bone-in breasts, thighs, legs, or wings to make the recipe. Just make sure to adjust the cooking times depending on the size of the pieces used.
You can also use boneless breasts or thighs to make the recipe, but cooking times will be much shorter.

- Place a wire rack on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet and spray it with cooking spray.
- Add the sea salt, black pepper, ginger powder, and baking powder to a small bowl.
- Mix thoroughly to combine.
- Season the chicken with the dry seasoning mixture on both sides and place it on top of the wire rack in a single layer, meaty side up.
- Place the baking sheet on the center rack of the preheated oven and cook for 45-55 minutes at 375 degrees F. or until an internal temperature of 165 degrees has been reached.
- Add the rice vinegar and finely chopped garlic to a small sauce pot over medium heat.
- Cook until the garlic becomes aromatic (1-2 minutes).
- Add the honey to the mixture and simmer over medium-low heat for 5-10 minutes.
- Set aside until needed.
- When the chicken quarters have reached 165 degrees, remove them from the oven and brush them with the honey and garlic glaze.
- Return the pan to the oven and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the honey-garlic chicken quarters are crispy and brown.
Remove the chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
For a complete meal, serve the honey garlic chicken quarters over a bed of rice with your favorite green vegetable. I prefer jasmine rice with this dish, but regular white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or your favorite grain can be used.
Any leftovers should be refrigerated in an airtight container (or well-covered with plastic wrap) for 3-4 days. They can also be frozen in a freezer-safe container or ziplock bag for up to 2 months.
