Ingredients to make Oven Roasted Asparagus
Let’s start by gathering the ingredients we need to make my oven roasted asparagus recipe. In Chef Speak, this is called the Mise en Place, which translates into Everything in its Place.
Not only does setting your ingredients up ahead of time speed the cooking process, but it also helps ensure you have everything you need to make the dish.
Can I change the seasoning?
I used simple seasonings to make my easy baked asparagus recipe, but you can definitely change up the seasonings. Lemon pepper, Italian seasoning, or any combination of your favorite seasonings and fresh herbs.
You can also use fresh garlic to make the dish or sprinkle the asparagus spears with parmesan cheese halfway through the baking process.
How to make Oven Roasted Asparagus
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Rinse the asparagus spears, then trim off the woody ends of the asparagus.
- Place them in a strainer to allow any excess water to drain off.
- Add the sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to a small bowl.
- Mix the seasoning together to combine fully.
- Pat dry the asparagus with paper towels to remove any excess moisture and place them in a container or on a cookie sheet for seasoning.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the asparagus and then roll the asparagus to coat on all sides.
- Sprinkle the dry seasoning over top of the asparagus and roll the asparagus again to coat them with the seasonings. Then, place them in a single layer on a wire rack over a baking sheet (covered with foil or parchment paper) so the asparagus can fully cook and stay crunchy.
*If you don’t have a wire rack, you can place them directly on a parchment-lined sheet pan. - Place the pan on a rack in the upper third of the preheated oven and cook for 12-15 minutes. Cooking time can vary depending on the desired tenderness and thickness of the asparagus.
*If your grocery store only has thick asparagus spears, use a vegetable peeler to gently peel the stalks of the spears. This will make them less stringy and tender.
For a flavor boost, sprinkle the roast asparagus with parmesan cheese, fresh rosemary, fresh thyme, lemon zest, or red pepper flakes for a little heat. You can also add a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar, a little olive oil, or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
Another great option is to use our Pangrattato recipe (pictured above) to add another layer of flavor and crunch to this easy side, creating a combination of simplicity and sophistication.
Save any leftover oven roasted asparagus refrigerated in an airtight container or tightly wrapped with plastic wrap.
