Ingredients

  • 8 oz mini twist pretzels
  • 6 oz milk chocolate melts
  • 6 oz white chocolate melts

Instructions

  • Place the semi-sweet chocolate in a bowl and place it in the microwave uncovered for 30 seconds.
  • Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir, moving it around so it melts evenly.
  • Place it back in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Stir again if any of the chocolate has not fully melted. Place it back in the microwave for 10-15 seconds until fully melted.
  • Repeat the same steps for the white chocolate.
  • Set up a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Alternatively, you can also use a pastry mat, although the parchment paper makes for much easier cleanup.
  • Dip the pretzels in the melted chocolate, covering both sides of the pretzel.
  • Allow any excess to drip off and place flat on the baking sheet.
  • Repeat the process until all of your pretzels are covered in chocolate.
  • Once all the pretzels are coated, use a spoon to drizzle the opposite color chocolate over top of the pretzels for contrast.
  • Sprinkle the pretzels with colored sprinkles or dip them in mini M&M’s or chocolate chips for an indulgent option.
  • Place the chocolate-covered pretzels in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until the chocolate has fully cooled.
  • Once cooled, gently remove from the wax paper and plate to serve. If giving as gifts, place them in small plastic bags and tie with ribbon.
  • These pretzels do not need to be refrigerated, although you want to keep them in a cool, dry place so they do not melt or get stuck together.

Notes

Recipe Variations
  • Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzels: swap the semi-sweet chocolate for dark chocolate for a deeper chocolate taste.
  • Sprinkles Covered Pretzels: Use seasonal sprinkles (Valentine's Day reds, Christmas greens, fall golds, Easter pastels, Summer red, white, and blue).
  • Candy Bar Pretzels: Add crushed nuts and mini chocolate chips.
  • Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods: Coat them in both milk chocolate and white chocolate, letting both show on the rod.
  • Sweet and Salty: Dust with flaky sea salt to enhance the cocoa notes.

Chef Tips
  • Melt chocolate slowly (microwave in 30-second bursts or use a double boiler). Burning chocolate will ruin the whole batch.
  • Use a fork or dipping tool for a clean finish.
  • Tap off excess chocolate for clean, even coverage.
  • Chill for 30 minutes to allow time for the chocolate to set.
  • Use parchment for an easier clean-up.
  • Dip pretzel rods at an angle for a professional, tapered finish.
  • Temper your chocolate if you want that glossy snap without bloom.
  • Mix a teaspoon of coconut oil into the chocolate for a silky, professional "enrobe."

Serving Suggestions
  • Serve with ice cream, fruit trays, or snack boards.
  • Pair with simple desserts, such as brownies or cookies.
  • Use as a garnish for chocolate mousse, cheesecake, or milkshakes.
  • Build a dessert charcuterie board with flavored pretzels, nuts, berries & chocolates.
  • Package them in clear bags with ribbon for parties or themed bags for quick gifts.

How to Store
Store in an airtight container or resealable bag in a cool, dry place to prevent the chocolate from melting. The pretzels can be stored in the refrigerator, although it is not recommended. Refrigeration can lead to a sugar bloom, a grainy white film on the surface.

Can I use other chocolate flavors?
Absolutely, use your favorite kind of chocolate. Semi-sweet and Dark chocolate are great options. There are a variety of flavors at your local craft store or online. Looking for a little more flair? Use different colors of the meltable chocolate for a bright, colorful option.
Why did my chocolate seize?
Please make sure all your tools and hands stay dry. Even a little bit of moisture can cause the chocolate to seize.
Can I use chocolate chips instead of chocolate melts?
Yes, you can also use chocolate chips. Melting time will vary depending on size. Traditional-sized chocolate chips will melt slightly faster than the melts.
